Welcome to Delft...............

Today was our first full day in the Netherlands, so after a good nights sleep (and all traces of jet lag firmly behind us) we have spent the day exploring our new home town of Delft. And for good measure the rain went away and the sun came out!

The 'Team' in Delft Market Square

Delft itself is a traditional market township and also has a huge amount of history attached to it. Our first task was to get a better view of the surrounding area so we all climbed to the top of the tower of the 'New Church' - which seemed like a good idea when we started but was actually more of a marathon to get up all of the narrow winding stairs!

So after discovering various levels of fitness we finally made it to the top level - at which point we were able to gauge our individual levels of vertigo. And the journey down also took a fair while, so quite a challenging day in terms of physical effort! So after this it was straight in to one of the many cafes for some reviving food and drink.

In terms of our hotel, we are enjoying a very comfortable stay at the WestCord Hotel, which is situated just outside of Delft town centre.

Our home for the next two weeks

Tomorrow the real trip starts and we are visiting 5 growers in total. We will be firstly visiting Monsanto's show glasshouse for Capsicum production, followed by a visit to a commerciall Rose grower. In the afternoon we will be visiting another Capsicum grower who utilises co-generation, followed by a trip to an Egg plant Grower, and finally a Pot Plant Grower. So we should be busy, but all of the details will be on the blog, so stay tuned for further details.
